DEREK MACLEOD, LCMHCA, LCASA (HE/HIM)

Therapist

Individuals seek counseling because they desire lasting change in their lives and greater awareness of who
they are. I am here to help empower and assist you in getting to where you want to be. Working together
and developing treatment goals, we can improve communication, disrupt negative patterns, gain
knowledge and tools that will facilitate continued growth, overall health and wellness.

I work primarily with adults (clients over 18yrs. of age) seeking to address anxiety, depression, trauma-
based responses, addiction and challenges associated with ADHD. I have worked in both individual and

group therapy settings.
Counseling can be influenced by many theories. I will draw primarily from Psychodynamic Therapy,
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). As a team, we
will be working toward your goals by becoming more aware of thoughts, actions, and emotions, and
working to understand, accept or change them depending on how they help or hinder you. As we assess
progress, we will find that, small changes lead to bigger changes over time. Change can be hard, but my
goal will be to create a safe, honest and supportive environment that can foster growth and lead you to
where you want to be.
Together we create a personalized treatment plan, with goals that are reasonable and specific, geared
towards you and your abilities. This plan will be reviewed and updated periodically throughout our
sessions, where we can evaluate how effective it is, and work together to determine need for additional
sessions, further assistance, or termination. I want to work with you, and your strengths to create a plan,
and solutions that are for you, and can be implemented successfully into your life.
